Herndon Friends Meeting is holding a used bike collection on September 18 from 12pm to 4pm at the Herndon Friends Meetinghouse, 660 Spring St., Herndon VA 20170, across the street from the firehouse. The collection will be held rain or shine. We will accept serviceable bikes (including children’s bikes), usable spare parts, accessories, and portable sewing machines in working order. Please, no tricycles, scooters, bike frames lacking most components, or “rust buckets.” We ask for a $10 donation per bike to defray shipping costs. We can accept checks, cash, and automatic payments using a QR code scanned with a mobile phone. The collection is being held in support of Bikes for the World, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Rockville, MD. Since its founding in 2005, Bikes for the World has collected and shipped over 178,000 bikes to 94 projects in 24 countries, including approximately 10,000 bikes in 2021.
